Because of a fight thirteen years ago, my wife and I were able to save a large amount of money this summer.
Could be too easy, but not sure. Based on a true story.

A fight between you and your wife?

Were either you or your wife involved in the fight?
Did you witness the fight?
Was it a sportive fight? Was it broadcasted?

Did you save money by not paying for something? Paying less for something? Putting more money away?

All no, but I like the last two questions, even if they're OTWT. GalfiskDid you save money by not paying for something? Paying less for something?
This. Putting more money away?

Was the fight between two persons? Was it real? fiction? In a game?
Was it carried out over the internet? with words? physically? With weapons? Was someone injured or killed?

Was the fight near where you live? Did it prompt investing in something preventive (such as a security camera)?

Did you learn about the fight immediately after it happened? only just recently?
Did it tale place somewhere near your place? was it in the news? were the people involved in the fight famous?
Thirteen years ago - i.e. in 2010?
Did you get something at much lower cost than it usually would have been? for free, essentially?
Was a payment that would have been due this summer no longer necessary? (like: installment, mortgage, tax?)
Were there similar payments in other years? (as you mentioned *this* summer)
Did you inherit something? receive a compensation?
Summer holidays relevant?

Was the fight near where you live? This is a very difficult question to answer. Explore timelines.Did it prompt investing in something preventive (such as a security camera)? No.

Did you live near where the fight happened when it happened, but don't anymore? or vice versa (i.e., the fight happened near where you live now, but you didn't live there yet at the time)?
Did you get a reduced price on a physical item? a service? an event/experience (such as a concert, a vacation, etc.)? Were you sold the item (or service, etc.) you got at greatly reduced price by someone who had a connection to the fight? who knew the person who was killed? Perhaps whatever it was had negative emotional connotations associated with it after the fight happened, which prompted him/her to want to get rid of it?

Did you buy a house? And if yes, was it the house where the fight took place? And it was cheap because people were reluctant to buy a house that someone was killed in, lowering its market value?

I figured this would likely go quickly, but am hoping it kick-starts my brain for better puzzles…
$POYLER!!!!!!!!
We just purchased a house which had sat on the market for quite a while, and for under asking and much lower than the average price in our city. While some of this due to location and layout, I suspect part of the reason it hadn’t sold was that a few years ago it was used as a boarding house and one of the roommates killed another in a drunken argument. With a hammer. Hence the title.
