Two friends meet for a game over dessert, but they are forced to quit the game without finishing. Why?

Are they playing with the food on the table, and have eaten it?

Is this an actual game, table, dessert, 2 friends? Location relevant? Is there just the one location? Is there a deadly element to any of this?

Is the food actual food? Food which has gone off? Pretend food, e.g. play-doh? Are they now in an unfortunate situation... e.g. they've got food stuck so >>> Heimlich manoeuvre? Or food allergy, diabetes etc?

Did the cake and chocolate become the playing pieces, so couldn't be eaten before the game was over?

PMing you with possibility.

My fault, forgot your new handle. I sent it again.

Were they eating the pieces as they played? (You capture a piece, you eat it)

Were they playing Chocolate Chess? Were the particular pieces remaining relevant? Stalemate? Errors played? Were multiple pieces captured in one move? Were they trying to NOT win the game?

Did the game dictate when the pieces could be eaten? Was a piece eaten before it should? Were they playing chess? Did anyone besides the two pleayers eat their dessert? Did a bird nab a piece? Another animal? A child? Edit: WAG: did a dog steal some chocolate, and they had to abandon the game and tend to the dog, since chocolate is toxic to them?

Was a pawn to be promoted, but the piece to which it would be promoted had been eaten?

Was a pawn to be promoted, but the piece to which it would be promoted had been eaten? Got it.

****SPOILER****

They were playing chess with the pieces made of chocolate on a board made of cake, where the captured pieces were eaten. But when one of the players wanted to promote a pawn and couldn't because they had eaten all the other pieces, they had to end the game early.
